Silver Sake Set

The Silver Sake set consists of a vessel for the alcohol with a small cup for the stopper and four complimentary stacking cups that are easily identifiable for use by each guest by their size. The stacking cups are intended to form a small tower on the bamboo tray. These are repositioned one at a time by placing them on the tray and dispensing the sake to the cup before serving each guest.

The form and structure of the sake vessel and cups was inspired by a study of the growth and formation of bamboo plants that I developed using Rhino software to produce CAD drawings and prototypes.

'I won the Young Designer Silversmith Award in 2013, this nationwide student scheme run by the Goldsmiths’ Company. Winning the Young Designer Silversmith Award gave me a commission to make my Silver Sake Set. This was presented to the V&A Museum and is part of their permanent contemporary collection. It was also included in an exhibition entitled ‘Miraculous Silver’ organised by the V&A and staged in the Kunsthalle in Würth, Germany and 'Masterpiece of British Silver: Highlights from the Victoria and Albert Museum' at the Liang Yi Museum in Hong Kong.

In 2014 I won multiple awards in the Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council (GCDC) Craftsmanship and Design Awards. This is a nationwide competition open to education and the industry, it is a major event in the precious metals industry calendar. In the silversmithing category I won a gold award in the 3D Finished Pieces Craft, and then the Major Awards of the Best Junior and Podolsky Awards for my Silver Sake Set'.
